VBS is still happening this Summer and we’re getting ready! The theme of VBS is Super Squad. Kids learn that they can be super heroes by serving others, through five Bible stories. 180 children have signed up to take part in “VBS in a box”. The number 180 has taken on a new dimension as 180 large boxes fill John Knox Hall and the gym; we’ve been counting to 180, a lot! The kids will have a giant ziploc bag for each day, containing everything from a tasty treat to craft projects and super squad server challenges.
It’s been wonderful to see friends working together at the church. We’re so thankful that we can do this together with masks and social distancing but none-the-less, together! Thank you to everyone who helped or signed up to help later this week. If you’d like to sign up to help prepare for VBS, please contact Jen Chibucos. Soon we will record the teaching videos and then, before you know it, it’ll be time to distribute the boxes. We can’t wait to see the smiles on the kids faces. Please pray that VBS in a Box helps bring children closer to Jesus, and empowers them to be super servers in their families and the community.
Thanks! – David and Jen and the VBS Team.
JUNE 16 UPDATE:
This Saturday, 94 families will drive through the west parking lot to pick up their VBS boxes. We can’t wait to see the children in the back seats (and their parents too :-). Although we’ll see them on zoom each day, seeing many children in person during the drive-through box pick-up will be a treat. We hope kids will be as excited about VBS as we are. If you were able to look down into the gym today, you would see rows and rows of boxes arranged by age and T-shirt size. T-shirts are light blue and printed with super heroes holding cleaning supplies on the front. The idea behind the graphic is that serving others makes us heroes. We hope kids will wear the shirts each day just like they would if VBS were at the church. We are recording teaching, skit and worship videos this week so we’re in full swing as we finish up the final VBS preparations. Thank you again to all who have helped in so many ways and to all who are praying for the kids and for VBS. We can’t wait to get started.
