Westminster Preschool

For over 60 years, Westminster Preschool has offered a loving education to prepare children age 2 through kindergarten to succeed in school and beyond.

Est. in 1956

Westminster Preschool was launched in 1956 as a ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn. Our purpose is to provide a loving, caring, Christian environment that aids all children in their social, physical, emotional, and intellectual development.

Curriculum

We prepare students to succeed in kindergarten and beyond through a daily balance of “free-play” and interactive structured learning time. We learn about the world around us while building a strong foundation for reading and math skills. We also practice cognitive skills, fine motor skills, healthy self-concepts, socialization, and negotiation so kids graduate with a strong foundation for school.

Academic Calendar

You can choose mornings from 8:45-11:15 am or afternoons from 12:30-3 pm. Classes begin in September and end before Memorial Day. We follow the academic calendar of Glen Ellyn School District 41 for most holidays and school closings.

Attention

With two teachers in every classroom and limited class sizes, students get individualized attention and are taught based on their particular needs. We even begin the school year with a classroom visit so your children are comfortable on the first day of school.

Well, that's special!

Students love the dedicated music classes for ages 3, 4, and 5 and P.E. for 4- and 5-year olds, both with dedicated staff members. Music programs throughout the year, including the annual Christmas Sing, give students a chance to build confidence and show what they’ve learned to loved ones!

Let's eat!

This is likely what you will hear about on the car ride home—snack time! Snack’s are provided by Westminster, they consist of two food groups, with the beverage being water. Students who have allergy or nutrition concerns can partner with the director regarding snack time. Students are encouraged to work on self-help skills as they enjoy eating together.

Children's Church

We gather once a month during class for a simple worship service with a song, prayer, Bible story, and offering. Students get to experience a worship space (the sanctuary) and an understanding of worship. Our “offering” typically involves an item to be donated to local Glen Ellyn agencies, such as the food pantry, Children’s Resource Center, or senior living center.

Summer Camps

A few weeks in the summer, Westminster hosts fun “camp” opportunities to continue the learning and growing between academic years. Morning sessions offer themes such as gardening, cooking, STEM, sensory science, and more. Mixed age classes create a collaborative learning atmosphere. Students can choose one week or many. Flexibility is the key for these summer learning camps.
