Meet the Team
The First Pres staff is diversely talented, passionate about the church and their ministry areas, and united in their love of Christ and the people of First Pres.
Chris has served as Senior Pastor of First Pres since 2012. Chris is a graduate of Baylor University, holds a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree through Fuller Seminary. Chris loves guiding the congregation to live into its call to participate in the mission of God in the world. “More Than Sunday means we discover what it means for us to live as followers of Jesus Christ in every aspect of our lives. God’s love for us and for the world has implications for our relationships, our families, our calendars, our community, our work lives, and on and on and on,” says Chris. Prior to joining the team at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, Chris served as Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship at Sammamish Presbyterian Church in Sammamish, WA. Chris lives in Glen Ellyn with his wife, Erin, and two sons, Carter and Ryan.
Jonathan serves at First Pres by leading the pastoral care ministries of the church, shepherding the Deacon ministry, and serving as a regular participant and preacher in Sunday morning worship. He has an undergraduate degree from Wheaton College, attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and graduated with an MDiv from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Jonathan is inspired by the number of unsung people in this church body who quietly, effectively, and faithfully serve behind the scenes: loving their “neighbor”, serving meals, caring for the children of others, visiting homebound elderly. He loves seeing people flourish in the gifts God has given them, using those gifts to serve and engage with others. Prior to joining the First Pres team in 2014, Jonathan has been an Associate Pastor and Executive Director of the LaSalle Senior Center, both at LaSalle Street Church in Chicago and most recently was the Executive Director of Emmaus Ministries, a long-time mission partner of First Presbyterian Church. He and his wife Beverly live in Chicago and have two adult daughters, Elizabeth and Abigail.
Andrew started at First Pres in 2018. In addition to leading modern worship, he leads the worship staff and teams, and innovates diverse worship experiences at all services. “Church can be the safe haven for a discouraged heart; at the same time, it also exists to challenge the status quo and to compel us to re-prioritize our Monday through Saturday,” says Andrew. “Gathered worship on Sunday should be a catalyst for growth propelling us in to tomorrow.” Andrew was raised in Japan as a missionary kid, and then graduated from Wheaton College, where he majored in Communication, served as the Student Body Chapel Band Leader, and led worship services for the Wheaton College community. Prior to joining the First Pres team, he served on the contemporary worship staff at Christ Church of Oak Brook, worked in the Chaplain’s Office at Wheaton College, and worked in the field of distance learning. He lives in Glen Ellyn with his wife, Hannah.
Senja has been at First Pres since 2015, working primarily with choirs of all ages, and planning Classic worship. Her favorite part of music ministry is helping worshippers express praise to God and find a deeper purpose for their lives. “When I see how our worship has made a difference in others, I feel inspired, knowing that God’s Kingdom is going beyond the doors of First Pres. and into the world,” says Senja. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Sacred Music degree from Boston University. Senja has led summer choral residencies at several Cathedrals in the United Kingdom. She also teaches piano and voice lessons to students with special needs, and lives in Wheaton with her husband Tim and children Fiona, Mathias, and Jaffrey.
Emily Puntuzs has been at First Pres since 2014. She directs handbells at the Classic service. Emily loves making music to glorify God each week with an amazing group of dedicated people. She is inspired by the love and support the members show for each other. She also currently teaches viola and violin at Wheaton College Community School of the Arts, where she also serves as Suzuki Strings Coordinator and directed the handbell program for nearly 20 years. She subs occasionally with Chicago Bronze and enjoys performing with her string quartet. Emily lives in Wheaton with her husband, Tony, and two daughters, Eliza and Caroline.
Since 1997 Sue Clary has served as Westminster Preschool Director, where she oversees the staff and supports the educational and social goals of the school. Sue has a B.S. in education from Illinois State University, and vast experience in both business and education. Sue’s passion is for young children to begin a love of learning and develop self confidence by attending Westminster. She works with the Westminster team to provide a sense of community for families to equip and support one another. She loves the wonder that is present every day in children. Sue lives in Glen Ellyn with her husband Dion.
Since 1995, Cinda has overseen adult education programming, small group development, women’s ministry, new membership, and helped with Deacon team. She loves to provide spiritual direction to individuals seeking to be more attentive to God’s presence in their lives. Cinda earned her undergraduate degree from University of Illinois and certification in Spiritual Direction from the Christos Center. Cinda is passionate about seeing people flourish in their relationships – with Jesus and with one another. In her work, she loves meeting a first-time visitor, having them attend the new member class, and then watching them as years go by as they develop life-long relationships while flourishing/maturing in their faith. Cinda lives in Glen Ellyn with her husband, Dale, and they have two adult children and a granddaughter.
David Profitt has been at First Pres since 2013, where he partners with parents to help children live out their faith. David works with a wonderful team of volunteers who make this vision a reality through Spark, Ignite and Inspire, and VBS. David is a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute. Prior to First Pres, David served in family ministries at churches ranging from 100 to 7000 in weekly attendance. David loves his work because kids are so curious, honest, and passionate about life. He believes childhood is a great time in their lives to introduce them to Jesus and his teachings. He hopes that First Pres ministries can help kids have a robust faith that makes a difference in their everyday lives. He is a citizen of South Africa, and lives in Glen Ellyn with his kids, Gavin and Addy, and his wife, Kathryn.
Jen started at First Pres in 2018. She helps David organize, plan, and lead Children’s Ministry programs. She majored in Education and English at Augustana College and received her Masters degree from Olivet Nazarene University in Curriculum Development and Instruction. Prior to coming to First Pres, Jen was an English teacher at Leyden High School in Franklin Park. She is a stay at home mom, Ben Franklin Recess supervisor, and she volunteers for anything that her kids are involved in—we met Jen because of her enthusiasm as a Spark volunteer. Jen hopes that through First Pres Children’s Ministry programs, children see and feel the very real love that Jesus has for them, and that they can learn to express their love and faith in a way that spreads like a wildfire; impacting everyone around them in a positive way, resulting in a world filled with compassion, love, grace, forgiveness, and Jesus. Jen lives in Glen Ellyn with her husband, Justin, and their children, Grace and Jack.
Blake started at First Pres in 2018, where he leads Junior High and High School Ministries. “It’s a pleasure to walk alongside, encourage, and to hold kids accountable,” said Blake. “It’s about getting them an onramp into adulthood—I want students to be adults by the time they leave high school, able to participate fully in life. I hope they become socially and emotionally engaged, with a worldview centered on the person of Christ.” Blake recently completed his undergraduate studies at Azusa Pacific University as a Biblical Studies major. He joined the First Pres team with over 5 years of Student Ministry experience as a Middle School Ministries Coordinator, High School Camp Speaker, and Ministry Leader.
Janelle joined the staff at First Pres in 2017 and has been a member since 2010. She keeps the Student Ministries team organized, managing communications and details for programs and events. Her favorite part of her job is getting to know and support our students. “I feel so blessed by their energy! To see them grow in their relationships with Christ together is simply inspirational,” says Janelle. She also takes to heart “More than Sunday.” “It means that my relationships within the church pour over into my everyday life whether that be as parent at a school event, a shopper at Trader Joe’s or simply as a neighbor. It is a constant reminder that we are all God’s people, all of the time,” Janelle says. Janelle received her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She lives in Glen Ellyn with husband, Bill, and their children, Ruby and Keegan.
Suzi Benes has overseen the church finances, legal records, and all things having to do with the church campus (in partnership with the Properties, Finance and Stewardship, and Personnel ministries) since 2005. Stewardship of resources is one of her top goals and she just might ask you to walk on the sides of the hall so the carpet wears evenly. She graduated from Iowa State with a degree in English, Journalism, and Psychology, and previously worked in the hospitality industry. She lives in Glen Ellyn with her husband Rich, and they have two children, Bailey and Cameron.
Cathy Colten has been part of the First Pres team since 2007. She runs the front desk on Wednesdays and Fridays, and keeps us organized by maintaining the church database and handling some graphic design for the Communications team on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She is inspired by volunteers and leaders at the church who give generously of their time, intelligence and energy—she loves to observe this body of Christ working together for the good of the community and the world. Cathy is a graduate of Albion College and has a background working in design. She lives in Wheaton with her husband Rob. They have two adult sons, James (Jenn) and Chris.
Barb Meyer has been on the First Pres team since 2015. She runs the front desk on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays where she enjoys serving all of the people with whom she comes in contact as well as the variety of administrative tasks. Barb loves it when she is able to connect the needs of a caller, whether a church member or not, with the many resources and people in our great congregation. And she loves having a collaborative team to work with to help provide the best that the people of First Pres can offer to each other. Prior to joining the staff Barb spent most of her career in education, teaching those with reading or learning disabilities. She holds a B.A. in special education from Wittenberg University and an M.S. in reading from Indiana University. Barb lives in Wheaton with her husband Rob. They have three adult children, David, Tim and Katherine.
