Fall Sermon Series | The Way of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew

Long before followers of Jesus Christ were referred to as “Christians” they were known as adherents of “The Way.” There are multiple reasons for this. Jesus referred to himself as “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” in John chapter 14. The Gospel author Mark quotes from the book of Isaiah in the prologue of the book of Mark, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight the paths for him.” By the time we arrive at the events of the New Testament book of Acts, “The Way” is probably the most commonly used term for the Jesus movement in the First Century, as it is cited eight separate times. Likely the primary reason that Jesus followers identified with that term for themselves is that they saw their lives as a journey following the way of Jesus Christ.

In this sermon series, we will study what it means to live in the way of Jesus, to be his apprentice, and to understand our lives and our world from that perspective.

Being a Jesus follower is not just a decision we make at one inflection point in our spiritual journeys. It is a way of life, guided by the Holy Spirit, following in the teachings and practices of Jesus Christ. Come discover the joy of walking in the Way of Jesus in 2022.
