The practical love of God and neighbor
In the gospels, Jesus both teaches and exhibits what it means to love like he loves. As Jesus teaches about the love of the Father, he pushes his listeners’ limits of belief and shatters the preconceived notions they carry about the depth of God’s love. When Jesus teaches his followers to love others the way that he loves them, there are two words that are particularly descriptive: Radical and Practical. Those are not words that we put together often, we may even see them as existing in tension with one another. But the kind of love that Jesus describes and models is both dangerously radical in its intensity, and fiercely practical in its usefulness. In this serving series, we will study this radical practical love Jesus teaches about and consider what it would mean for us to live out that kind of love in our homes, and neighborhoods, places of work, and church community.
