Did you know that 16 volunteers from First Pres Glen Ellyn welcomed 7 families and individuals to DuPage County last year? YOU can be a part of this gratifying effort by helping a new refugee individual or family as they resettle in our community as a New Neighbor. OR donate an essential household item or two, making the welcome for refugees to their new home even brighter. All it takes is your time, talent, and/or treasure!
Here are some opportunities for you to consider:
- New Neighbor Volunteer – 1) Volunteer individually or to be part of a group to befriend and help refugees as they acclimate and assimilate to their new community, 2) through conversational English that helps them learn a language different from their own, or 3) as a mentor to the children of the family. A background check is required for this ninety-day commitment.
- Welcome to America Packs – purchase and donate NEW household items listed in Exodus’ Welcome to America Packs! A list of items to help make their house a home has been put together by Exodus and can be found here. PLUS you can also be a part of the delivery team! All that is needed for this is a background check through Exodus. Please expect a quick request for your delivery help.
