“Jesus: A Storyteller”
Sundays, April 22, 29 and May 6, 10:30am in the church Parlor | Jesus was fond of telling a certain kind of story, the parable. Often these parables are difficult to understand; Jesus’ own disciples complained that they did not always understand them. In this class we will examine several of Jesus’ parables and read them in light of Jesus’ 1st Century, Jewish context in which teaching by parables was common. We will seek to make clear some of the cultural context of Jesus’ illustrations and metaphors so that we can discover what Jesus is teaching us today through his parables. Dr. Matthew J. Aragon Bruce earned his Ph.D. in History of Christian Doctrine from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is Visiting Associate Lecturer of Theology at Wheaton College.
