The One Year Bible at First Pres

389813A recent survey revealed the Bible is still firmly rooted in American soil: 88 percent of respondents said they own a Bible, 80 percent think the Bible is sacred, 61 percent wish they read the Bible more, and the average household has 4.4 Bibles.

Yet, only 26 percent of Americans said they read their Bible more than four times per week. The main reasons given for the gap between “I want to” and “I do” include feeling intimidated by the Bible, not knowing where to start, and a shortage of time.

In 2017, the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn is going to read the Bible together. The whole thing. All of us. Everybody, every day, every word! You are invited to join us to participate in a daily Bible reading plan, making use of The One Year Bible.

Here are the basics:

  • Each day’s 15 minute reading is user-friendly in The One Year Bible. Readings are available in a number of translations, online, on your phone, or via audio reading.
  • Each day includes passages from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs.
  • First Presbyterian will empower and support you through adult education classes, great devotionals, and educational and social media resources. Our goal is that God’s word will transform from something intimidating into a trusted friend.
  • Our Sermon Series will align with what you are reading in The One Year Bible. Together, we will experience rich worship and grow in our knowledge of God’s word.

So start thinking about where and when you will read the Bible in 2017. Then join us when we start The One Year Bible reading plan on January 1!
