Join Us at Junior High Ministries
Junior High students can't get enough of the ministry programs at First Pres. Our programs meet them where they are at, sharing God's love and how it is at work in their lives. We offer Sunday morning classes, Confirmation, and the beloved favorite, our mid-week TNT.
9am or 10:30am
We love to join together with the congregation for worship! Our Classic Service (9am) or our Modern Worship (10:30am).
We get together in room 31 (lower level) for a walk through the New Testament, paying special attention to the awesome people who lived out these amazing stories and how they all fit into the story of God.
Throughout the school year, 8th Graders are all invited to our Know the Faith Confirmation class on Sunday mornings in room 29 (lower level), where we go deeper into understanding the foundations of the Christian faith, including The 10 Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, and The Apostles’ Creed.
This class is stage one of the confirmation process at First Presbyterian Church. It is the first step in becoming a full member of the church—however, all 8th graders are welcome, whether they intend to continue with the 3-part confirmation process.
The class is a time of thinking, questioning, learning, and maybe rethinking things that we thought we knew (that can be a great thing!).
TNT, our Wednesday evening junior high program, is designed to connect students with God, the church, leaders who care for them, and other fantastic junior highers. We spend our evenings learning what the Bible teaches about important and relevant topics like: friendship, worship, community, trusting God, and the stories of Jesus. After this teaching time we split into small groups to discuss that night’s topic and how it affects our lives. Dinner is available for $5.
So…what does TNT stand for?
TNT stands for “Salt and Light,” with the “T’s,” representing the last letter of “salt and light.” This theme is based on Matthew 5:13-14 where Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” This passage challenges Christians to show Christ to the world by serving as the spiritual flavor in this bland world, and light in this dark world. And quite simply, we extend this challenge to our junior high students and encourage them to remember that as Christians they should be noticeably different at their schools and as they hang out with friends.
