Capital Campaign Highlights First Presbyterian Church Glen Ellyn

Many thanks are due to so many! Thank you to all who were able to make a pledge to the campaign. Thank you to all who prayed for the financial strength of the church. Thank you to all who helped to spread the key message of the campaign: in order to free up funds for our worship, education, fellowship and mission ministries, we need to reduce debt.

It’s not too late to contribute to the campaign. Please contact the church office to share the details of your pledge.

Armed with the results of the campaign, we’ll fashion the steps forward in May. Then, with Session approval, we’ll achieve what we sought to do: reduce our overall debt level, and renegotiate better terms and lower interest rates on the remaining debt. This will free up funds for better purposes.

The Lord’s Overwhelming Abundance will be Revealed. Please watch for God’s plans to take flight at First Pres!

Campaign Goal:

In order to better serve the Lord, the campaign targets to:

- Increase our financial stability by reducing our financial indebtedness

- Free up funds for increased expenditures on programs, missions and other priority needs

Key Milestones:

- In 2001, our church committed to a vision to expand our launching capacity, as well as our facilities, to serve the Lord, our congregation and the entire community in exciting ways

- We raised over 1/3 of the initial building capital (more than $6 million) in the Building Tomorrow’s Ministry Today campaign

- In 2004, when construction had been completed, we raised additional funds in the Faithful Campaign to reduce our debt

- Now, it’s time to soar by reducing our indebtedness and unshackling us to grow and better serve the Lord

Why are we doing this now…?

- Our church is being shackled by the burden associated with our $2.9 million of debt

- Annual giving has decreased over the past few years, triggering the deferral of a bank term loan obligation

- The Session has responded by making several cuts to our annual budget; all ministry programs have tightened their belts, administrative costs have been cut and our support to missions has been significantly reduced

- As we embark on a new season in the life of our church, now is the time for us to increase financial stability by making personal commitments and sacrifices to serve the Lord and our church community in a way that honors our legacy of ministry and frees us to move forward together

What’s next?

- Take time to pray for discernment and then willingly pledge to support the campaign

- In April, pledges will be formally received during worship, with campaign results being announced in May

The Time to Soar campaign is a great challenge for our congregation and for each of us. Together we will be able to meet this challenge and accomplish our goals for the future. As God leads each of us to consider our pledge, please remember God’s abundance and faithfulness to us and to our congregation.

First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn Narrative Budget 2012

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” -Luke 6: 37 – 38 NIV
