Four-Hands Piano Concert

time 3:00 pm

May 21, 2017

The Chicago Piano Duo is a unique blend of two artists whose paths have crossed in various ways over the past twenty-five years. According to the Chicago Tribune, they are “from different generations, but have shared musical values and shared spiritual values … and (they) both agree it’s fun!” The CPD performs a wide spectrum of music: classical music written for one piano/four-hands, works written for two pianos, and also sacred music that feature hymn arrangements, original compositions, or spiritual themes. They have performed in many noted series and venues across Chicago and beyond, including Fridays at Noon (Fourth Presbyterian Church), Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College, John Brown University, Metropolitan Methodist Church (Washington D.C.), St. Michaels Church, Wentz Concert Hall, North Shore Performing Arts Center, and at the annual Schubertiade, where their performance was heard live on WFMT

William Phemister is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the Peabody Conservatory, where he received his doctorate studying with Leon Fleisher. He is an exclusive Steinway Artist.  Professor of Piano at Wheaton College for 40 years, he served as organist at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn and was instrumental in the acquisition of the beautiful Steinway in the sanctuary.

Brian Lee not only has been serving as Coordinator of Piano Studies at Moody Bible Institute for many years but is also just now assuming the Music Department Chair.  With a doctorate from Juilliard, Brian has had a brilliant career as a performer in many venues, including a recent concert tour of China.

Their program will include the complete four-hand duets of Mark Hayes—brilliant settings of well-known hymn tunes—plus solo works by Brahms and Liszt.
